Workshop #2: Apron
Class Description: In this workshop you will make a stunning one-of-a-kind selvage-covered apron. If you have some food themed fabrics, this is the place to use those selvages! All skill levels are welcome. You will go home with a finished apron and a new appreciation for the usefulness of selvages in quilt making. Bring a friend and have some fun.
Supply List:
- Apron can be purchased at arts and crafts stores for about $5. (Denim is not recommended because the bound edges are so thick.) Sized for Adult or Child.
- One sandwich bag of Selvages (cut about 1 ½ inches wide)
- Scissors (for cutting the selvage lengths to size)
- Sewing machine
- Off-white Thread (will match most selvages)
- Straight Pins, about 6 (to hold long selvages in place)
- Iron and ironing surface

Directions:
Step 1: Starting near the bottom edge of the apron, pin and sew the first selvage along the bound edge.
There are 2 ways to handle the edges:
- You can fold the edges under as you attach the selvages. (The selvages will not show on the back of the apron.)
- You can let both edges hang off the apron until you finish covering the apron with selvages. Then, fold all the selvages to the back of the apron, and sew around the perimeter of the apron. (The selvages will show on the back of the apron, but this method is a little faster and easier.)
Step 2: Lay selvage #2 so that the bound edge overlaps selvage #1. Sew along the bound edge. Continue adding selvages until you get close to the top.
Step 3: After attaching the last selvage, fold the raw edge over and sew across the top.
If you have chosen method #2 above, fold your selvage edges to the back of the apron and sew.
